Irony in art

Hollywood special effects gurus have spent a lot of time designing elaborate minture sets that they try to make as real as possible on the screen. Some times they succeed, other times they fail. Somehow a lot of minature sets tend to have a funny look that gives them away as minatures – usually because of how they’re filmed with macro lenses.

Apparently one artists failure is another artists goal though. I hadn’t realized there was a movement around ‘minature faking’ – the art of making of real life look like a minature set. Apparently this is done through tilt-shift lenses and/or digital manipulation of focus areas & contrast.

The end result though can be pretty stunning. See all of Keith Loutit’s ‘Little Sydney’ project on Vimeo here.
