Traveled to Amado, AZ for a long weekend attending the Overland Expo. It was a good show, marred by some abnormaly hot conditions, when combined with blowing wind and dust made it a bit unpleasant at time. The classes themselves though were generally pretty good. The hands-on classes including recovery skills, tire repair and [...] Went out on a nice club run with the AZLCA through Box Canyon, hooking up with the Telegraph Canyon trail and making our way out to Superior. Beautiful weather for the run – sunny, mid-70s and not too windy. Some minor carnage on the waterfall headed out of Box Canyon in the form of a mangled tailpipe on an FJ Cruiser. Lots of [...] Took a short run up Montana Mountain with some friends. Was a cloudy day, fairly cold and windy up at the top – so the pictures didn’t turn out great. But a really pretty area and a relatively easy run. All in all a good day. [Show as slideshow] [View with PicLens] Took a short, simple run through New River Canyon today. Left from I17 & Table Mesa Road heading east, along with some other club members – another 4Runner, a FJ Cruiser and an 80. Almost immediately ran into a couple of kids in a CJ7 that had gotten themselves into a minor predicament, with [...] Took a run up to Crown King, riding with Marcel in his newly put back together FJ40. Had another FJ40, a Toy Truck, a 4Runner and a Jeep along as well. Generally was a nice day with minimal carnage – just a single flat tire. The road from Oro Belle up to Crown King [...] Took a quick half-day run out to the Wickenburg area today. Started by running up the Hassayampa Riverbed through the slot/box canyon area. Hadn’t been up there before and while short and not terribly challenging it’s a very pretty area and made for a nice little morning drive. After getting turned around a little [...] Took a couple of day trips up to the Sedona trip this December to run some of the more popular trails around town. While they are popular and crowded trails, littered with jeep tours and lots of tourists, they’re popular for a reason – being accessible and loaded with wonderful scenery. The first trip [...] We just got back from an amazing trip through northern AZ and bits of southern Utah. We took almost 1000 pictures and a lot of them turned out pretty amazing. We started by visiting Hubbell Tradingpost National Historical Site – a very cool reminder of how commerce used to work, back in the early [...] Just got back from a weeklong trip to the Great Basin area. We left on a Friday and drove into Vegas, staying cheap in the Fremont Street area – something I wont ever do again. Pretty much all the bad parts of Vegas with none of the good. On Saturday we visited Michael Heizer’s [...] Had a great time in the Great Basin – one of the highlights was stargazing through our Celestron NexStar 6SE telescope from the Wheeler’s Peak campground. Jupiter was a particular highlight after it rose – giving us great views of the planet (including some banding) along with four of it’s moons. Here’s an ugly [...] |
