Southwestern Colorado, driving the high-passes – Labor Day, 2012

For labor day week we decided to spend some time in the Southwestern Colorado area. Having gotten a bit of a taste on previous trips – spending couple days in Telluride and Durango, we wanted to explore a little more seriously.

We drove into Durango on Saturday, which was hosting a biker rally that […]

Attic House Ruins

Took an overnight trip into Prescott National Forest with some folks from Expeditional Portal to visit Attic House Ruins – a well preserved Sinaguan ruin dating to approximately 1280 AD. Met up with the group in Chino Valley. The trip leaders were fantastic guides – very knowledgeable about the area, history and wildlife. After traversing about 40 miles […]

Montana Mountain Run

Took a short run up Montana Mountain with some friends. Was a cloudy day, fairly cold and windy up  at the top – so the pictures didn’t turn out great. But a really pretty area and a relatively easy run. All in all a good day.

Table Mesa/New River Canyon Run

Took a short, simple run through New River Canyon today. Left from I17 & Table Mesa Road heading east, along with some other club members – another 4Runner, a FJ Cruiser and an 80. Almost immediately ran into a couple of kids in a CJ7 that had gotten themselves into a minor predicament, with […]

Box Canyon of the Hassayampa & Stanton, AZ

Took a quick half-day run out to the Wickenburg area today. Started by running up the Hassayampa Riverbed through the slot/box canyon area. Hadn’t been up there before and while short and not terribly challenging it’s a very pretty area and made for a nice little morning drive. After getting turned around a little […]

Sedona 4Wheeling

Took a couple of day trips up to the Sedona trip this December to run some of the more popular trails around town. While they are popular and crowded trails, littered with jeep tours and lots of tourists, they’re popular for a reason – being accessible and loaded with wonderful scenery.

The first trip […]

New Suspension on the 4Runner

Installed a new OME suspension on Kim’s 4Runner to get a little lift and some better offroad handling. Her brother was nice enough to do most the work, since he’s pretty handy with cars. She has a V6 SR5, and we put the OME 885 springs with 90000 shocks on the front – which […]

A trip through Arizona and a new Land Cruiser

After Kim’s Prius was totaled by some inattentive jackass in a parking lot, she opted to replace it with a Toyota 4Runner – since my FJ40 is still of little help in exploring the great outdoors.

The 4th gen 4Runner is a great truck – a true SUV with frame-on-body construction, a solid rear […]
